Rivers to Rails
Two great ways to travel, two important roles in American History. Come along with us for very scenic barging on the Ohio River. In Ohio, we visit Marietta where we'll take a vintage 1920's rail car ride through the beautiful Hocking River Valley. We'll visit Robin's Crossing, an 1850s village and interpretive center. See the flood wall murals when we visit "America’s Hometown," Portsmouth, OH. Our Landing at Huntington, West Virginia is also the springboard for our exploration of the National Coal Heritage Area and the Buckley Exhibition Coal Mine. You’ll dig this glimpse of what life was like in a coal camp community; character portrayals and artifacts help bring the story to life. To get there, we travel by motorcoach through the "Mountain State" to see the New River Gorge, "the Grand Canyon of the East." Bargeloads– and Trainloads of fun!
Mouth of the Mississippi
Come see Mile Zero at the Head of Passes and the place where the mighty Mississippi opens wide. This strategic location has always attracted world attention of those interested in controlling the North American continent. This age-old effort is still carved into the river’s banks. That’s why we visit historic Fort Jackson, a sentinel which has stood watch over the area since 1832. We’ll share the story of Pilot Town, a tiny community unreachable by land where river pilots live and support services keep today’s traffic on the river flowing. Relax, say AHHHH! and enjoy this very rare river adventure with us.
Foliage and Fillies
These are eight day Mid-October Cincinnati round trips at the peak of fall color. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the rolling hills of southern Ohio and northern Kentucky as you travel the Ohio River. Go to Lexington, Kentucky, the heart of horse country and see some of the greatest thoroughbreds of all times. Visit Keeneland Racetrack and hob-nob with big time owners and breeders as you watch the ponies run. Join us for this intimately wonderful insiders look at the grand living of horses and the simple living of people in America's Heartland.
